The website design process can be a bit convoluted at times. If you want some straight answers, read on.
General
How do I get a domain name (www.yourdomainname.com)?
If you've been thinking about setting up a web site, you've probably come up with at least one name you'd like to use. But how do you know if the name isn't already reserved by someone else? One way is to type the name in and see whether it points to an existing web site. A better way is to do a WHOIS inquiry. The best way, though, is to send me the names you like and I'll take care of the rest.
How long does it take to build a web site?
If you have prepared your written material and collected the photos and images you want to include in your web site, it should take approximately 1 month to complete your web site.
How will people know about my web site?
The viability of your web site depends on the amount of traffic it's getting. In other words, how many people will visit your web site. Of course, the amount of traffic you get depends on the type of business you're in and how much competition is already out there on the internet. Totalnetqc provides SEO services to get you ranked for selected keywords.
Who is going to maintain my web site after you have finished building it?
If this is a static website , and depending on your knowledge and ability to work with web pages, you can either do your own web site maintenance, or hire us to maintain your web site. If this is a content management system, then you can perform your own content updates quite easily.
How much will it cost for my web site to be hosted?
There is no charge for the initial hosting setup fee. Totalnetqc charges $20.00 per month for hosting a static website. If your website has been created with Joomla! or osCommerce (both transactional website environments), the monthly hosting fee is $35.00.
What kind of equipment will my web site be hosted on?
You will be hosted on a Dell Dual Xeon Server, using registered RAM and SCSI hard disks. The hardware is maintained 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The system is protected by RAID-10 mirrors.
How will the web site be structured?
One of the first things discussed with a customer is the structure of the web site. Structure in this case means what information goes where. This is very important in terms of navigating your web site. Perhaps you already have a good idea how your information should be structured on the web site. If not, Totalnetqc can help you in this matter. The goal is to make sure your visitors are rarely more than one or two clicks away from their destination.
How do I send you the content?
Once a preliminary structure has been determined, the next step is to send the information from your computer to mine. In the case of text, it's simply a matter of attaching it to an email. If it's a digitized photo or image (i.e., jpeg, gif or png), you can also send them as email attachments, or if they are too large, upload them to the Totalnetqc FTP server. If you have images that need scanning, you will have to send them via regular or express mail.
Do you create your web sites to be optimized for a particular browser?
You may have seen the message before: This site is optimized for Internet Explorer or Firefox, etc. At Totalnetqc, your website is optimized to work correctly in BOTH the latest Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. That way you are sure to reach your maximum potential audience.
How do I view my web site while it's being built?
Once a draft of your website has been finished, Totalnetqc will email you a URL that will take you to your web site for viewing. At this point, the web site is not for public viewing. Public viewing takes place only when the web site is finished to your satisfaction.
Can I use my company logo in the web site?
If you have an existing company logo, I encourage you to use it. If, however, you don't have a logo, or you wish to modify your existing logo, Totalnetqc can design one for you.
What kind of tools do you use to create a web site?
The essential tools that go into building a website are photoshop and a good html editor. There are no state-of-the-art tools here to keep the process mysterious and pricey. Speaking for myself, I don't use Dreamweaver or other web authoring tools as they tend to create bloated html code that is hard to manage and doesn't load as quickly on the browser.
Form validation
Creating a form requires an html form page and a script working in the background, usually written in either perl or php. When the form is submitted, the script parses the information and relays it to you. Sometimes, however, customer data can be invalid. At Totalnetqc, we provide scripts that oblige your customer to enter his or her information correctly. |
